The primary focus of my research is the implementation of emerging technologies to mitigate known issues in society.  Novel technology diffusion has the potential to help move several legacy industries to their next version via evolution based on new technology use cases.  My current focus is on the healthcare industry and how emerging technologies can be deployed to increase industry performance and patient experience.
Emerging technology can help to reduce the bias and ethical gaps in healthcare where it comes to differences in treatment, diagnosis, and health outcomes for underrepresented patient groups. These health disparities have long been an issue for minority communities in both rural and urban settings. New technologies can be leveraged to mitigate human-based bias and discrimination in healthcare by using data to supplement and validate healthcare decisions.
There are two emerging technologies I believe have the greatest potential of achieving the goal of mitigating the gap identified in the research statement above. The two technologies are: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Both technologies have high expectations for how they are going to impact society and AI has been specifically identified as a primary driver of the evolution of healthcare. The diffusion path for AI has already seen a dynamic increase in the last several years, but there are also many concerns about the ethical and regulatory implications of the emerging deployments. IoT has also experienced some recent increases in both interest and deployment, and just like AI has raised its own general ethical and regulatory concerns.

My research focus is these emerging technologies and the major factors of economics, technology, and policy.  The goal of my post-doctoral research is to extend my current methods to other novel technologies or to provide additional insight to any of the major factors of economics, technology, or policy in the application of use cases for artificial intelligence.  My research objective is to understand the impact of these factors on the evolution path of novel technology for the benefit of society. Technology will continue to play a major role in determining the path forward of both developed and developing societies and there is a responsibility to mitigate the damages and inequalities between stakeholders while allowing for economic gains and appropriate levels of innovation.  My research investigates and provides alternatives to balance these disparate objectives.
